The Welsh Society of Vancouver can trace its roots back to 1908 when the first Welsh Society, "The Cymrodorion Society", was formed in Vancouver by Welsh immigrants and their descendants. This group was instrumental in introducing Welsh culture and tradition to their new country. The roots of Côr Meibion Cymraeg stretch back in history to when in the mid 1850's, a large group of Welsh Quarrymen, who had been on the work force of the Menai Suspension Bridge, came to Montreal after its completion. A contract had been given to start work on the construction of the Victoria Bridge to span the St. Lawrence River.
