Details about the activities of a Choir founded by the Welsh settlers in Blackstone in 1886, and nurtured by Lewis Thomas from Tal y Bont near Aberythwyth -- Thomas was 'the Coal King' of Ipswich. The Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir still sings in Welsh as well as English, and in five other languages as well. The Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir was formed in 1980 by a few enthusiastic members of the Vancouver Welsh Society. The choir has grown from eighteen to over one hundred singers and now has men of varied national and ethnic backgrounds. The roots of Côr Meibion Cymraeg stretch back in history to when in the mid 1850's, a large group of Welsh Quarrymen, who had been on the work force of the Menai Suspension Bridge, came to Montreal after its completion. A contract had been given to start work on the construction of the Victoria Bridge to span the St. Lawrence River.
